Thanks to our supporters

We would like to thank all who supported  Freedom to Choose – Snowdonia in our campaign opposing aspects of the SGK Strategy for Snowdonia, in particular the compulsory Park and Ride proposals.

The input we had from all our supporters enabled us to submit an authoritative and wide ranging written response to the Snowdonia Green Key Strategy Statement – Consultation Draft.  Our response was sent to over 50 people including the Project Officer (who included it with her report to the SGK Partners);  the RPS consultants; members of the ten organisations forming the Consortium; local councillors; members of the Welsh Assembly and Members of Parliament.

Your individual responses were an important factor, the SGK press release of 30th April acknowledges that

“The response to the consultation has been phenomenal - thousands of letters and e-mails have been received ….  As a result of the overwhelming amount of reaction in relation to one particular aspect of the scheme, the Park and Ride element, the Partnership will reconsider it’s proposals …”

In a letter to the Freedom to Choose - Snowdonia group the SGK Project Officer, Gwenllian M.P. Owens, says:

"We perceive Freedom to Choose - Snowdonia as a key stakeholder group because it represents the views of so many individuals and organisations that visit and/or use Northern Snowdonia.  The comments and feedback received via the group during and after the consultation period have been invaluable. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Freedom to Choose for the written response made in relation to the draft strategy statement and to fully acknowledge the amount of work this represented.

A number of very worthwhile and positive ideas have come forward as a result of the consultation which I believe can be developed further if we work closely together. Accordingly I will be in contact soon to arrange the first of what I hope will be a series of regular meetings with the group."

and Sue Essex, Minister for Environment, National Assembly for Wales says in a letter to the Snowdonia National Park Authority

“while remaining firmly committed to the development of sustainable transport policies, I am also committed to public consultation, and responding to concerns.”

A new round of consultations

There will be a new round of public consultation during the coming months in which Freedom to Choose – Snowdonia will participate. The need for vigilance remains.  The Group will continue to provide a channel through which people from both inside and outside the area can be heard and we will continue to provide information and report on developments.

Our website will feature your comments about the next phase of consultation and the recommendations made in the RPS consultants report .
