Snowdonia Green Key: current status
Chairperson of the Snowdonia Green Key
Management Group, Peter Ogden today explained the current
status of the Green Key Initiative:
“The initial Green Key Project Officer, Gwenllian Owens has
left her post and it is hoped to appoint her successor in
April 2003 - when Gwenllian’s three year contract would have
come to an end.”
“The priority during the initial period of this new phase of
the Initiative, is to re-establish the protocol for dialogue
with the community and user based Focus groups, that were
partially set up last year. The incoming Project Manager will
thereafter work with local communities to implement those
aspects of the Green Key Initiative that had public support.
Priority will be given to improving the frequency and image of
the Sherpa bus network, along with those small scale tourism
projects which create local economic benefit”
“We acknowledge that we need to engage the public more
effectively in this exciting project and look forward to
meeting the local Focus groups to do this.”
Following the Consultant’s report last year, the short-term
emphasis of the Initiative will be to provide a better range
of travel choices for the public to enjoy Snowdonia. The
introduction of a ‘Real Time' travel information service
(whereby potential passengers will know how long they will
have to wait at a specific location for a bus) will also be an
important feature of this enhanced service.
It is now clear that the controversial plans, as mooted in the
original Green Key document to enforce a Park and Ride scheme
will not be on the agenda. Dialogue with the Focus groups will
also help clarify how and where any future car parking should
be provided.
Further updates on the Green Key Initiative and details of the
local Focus group arrangements will appear on the S-A website
over the coming months.
