Observation 45: Ogwen Valley Angling Association

I would refer to the public meeting held in Neuadd Ogwen, Bethesda regarding the above scheme.

On behalf of our members, I must inform you that we strongly reject the scheme because of the likely effects on our members and our angling.

The Association has 300 members and it is part of our constitution to provide fishing to local anglers at as low a price as possible. The introduction of this scheme will mean that each time an angler wants to go fishing an extra cost will be incurred.

We can foresee that a large number of our members will decide that they are not prepared to pay the additional cost each time and our membership will decline drastically. Access to the lakeside and riverside is of paramount importance to our members, many of whom are dependent upon the car for safe access.

The result of this would be the Association would not be able to support it’s financial commitments due to dwindling membership and the likely outcome would be that the fishing would be taken over by groups from outside the area and once again local anglers would suffer.

In addition to this almost a hundred visitors a year fish the Association’s waters and enjoy considerably the experience of being able to do so unhindered and safe in the knowledge that their vacation activities are centred around their own timetable and not the local bus company.
