new
Snowdonia Green Key
Strategy and Working Plan 2005/2006 (Draft
August 2005)
has been Released for Consultation
following two years of discussions with a wide range of individuals and organisations
in which Freedom to Choose - Snowdonia took part.
In
a press release the Snowdonia Green Key Partnership say that the
consultation has led to a re-focussing of the Initiative:
The draft puts forward proposals for the improvement of bus services, car parks, bus stops and the establishment of interchanges. The problems of parking at Pen y Pass are addressed and the prospect of increased faith in the service is becoming a reality with the development of real time information at bus stops.
Some works have already taken place. New interchanges have been built at Llanberis and Betws-y-Coed. Nant Peris car park has been enlarged and new buses which carry cycles are coming into service.
Much more needs to be done however and the Strategy aims to open debate on the parking at Pen-y-Gwryd and Dyffryn Ogwen.
New fare structures which reflect parking charges with various discount offers are also suggested with the aim of attracting people onto buses to travel in Northern Snowdonia. Two new open top bus services are already proving popular.
The consultation process aims to involve key organisations and communities in where this Initiative goes over the next three years. The key aim is to provide a transport service that people have confidence in and want to use as well as to manage car parking in the area within existing numbers and reducing its environmental impact.
Conwy County Borough Councillor Goronwy Edwards, Chairman of the Green Key Partnership said:
"We want to develop an integrated transport system with manageable car parking. We hope that people will agree that this draft strategy takes us along that route and that they will contribute to its development in a thoughtful and constructive
way."
The
press release does not say when responses are to be made by. We are
informed that responses should be made to the Project Officer, Huw Percy on (01286) 679615 or 679901;

There
are a number of things to be welcomed in the new Strategy and Working Plan
but there are still some concerns. The Freedom to Choose - Snowdonia
committee will be making a response which will be posted on this site but others are urged to look at the
proposals and make their own responses direct to the Snowdonia Green Key
Partnership.
It
is worth making responses and notice
has been taken of suggestions made in the response prepared by Freedom to
Choose - Snowdonia to the earlier round of consultation. Click here
